Christmas Music December 2016

The school musicians were very busy in December 2016. Over 150 musicians took part in 9 events over 3 weeks. The brass musicians started the Christmas season playing for the Oldham Metro Rotary at their Christmas Concert at St James Church, Derker. A few days later the Brass Ensemble played a selection of carols for a whole school advent assembly in the Sports Hall. The same week the Brass Band, again under the direction of Mr Jonathan Leedale of Oldham Music Service, played at the Oldham Chronicle Festival of Carols at Oldham Parish Church. Some of the musicians were photographed next to Crompton House’s Christmas tree, which Mrs Harvey decorated on the theme of the school’s 90th anniversary.

Some of the school choirs sang at the PTFA Christmas Fair, adding a real festive mood to the day and on the Sunday the CHS Swing Band played at Holy Trinity Church at a concert by the Oldham Choral Society.

On the penultimate day of term the school held it’s annual Christmas Concert with ten groups and a variety of  soloists  performing a wide range of Christmas music. Over 150 musicians took part and the evening was a a wonderful celebration of school music.

The very last day of term started with the Brass Ensemble under the direction of  Mr Roger Meaden playing carols as pupils and staff arrived at school. The School communions, lead by Rev Tim Wickham of Balderstone and Mr Holt, were augmented by the school communion choir and band, and they ensured the term ended in a wonderfully festive mood.

All the Christmas music was at a very high standard, and much thanks is due to Mrs Nixon, Director of Music, Miss Warburton, Music Teacher, and the staff of Oldham Music Service who all work so hard at Crompton House.
