Summer Concert 2017

Early in July the music department held its Summer Concert at St James’ Church, Derker. Five groups took part: Senior Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Chapel Choir, Senior Choir, and Senior Wind Band, as well as some Year 13 individual performances to mark their last concert at Crompton House. Over one hundred pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 took part in the concert which demonstrated the high quality and wide participation of music in the school.

This concert was in addition to the Lower School production of “Oliver”, the Brass Band performing in the Music For Youth National Finals and five groups taking part in the Oldham Schools Music Festival, leading to Crompton House being presented with the Jaques Stromberg Award for the Outstanding Contribution by a Secondary School, the Junior Orchestra Primary Schools Tour, the Communion Band for services on the last day of term, and the Music Induction Day for our new Year 7 pupils!

Our pupils also took part in a number of Oldham Music Centre events including their day-long Summer Festival, various performances in Oldham and Manchester, and, in the last week of term, the Music Centre trip to Lake Garda in Italy.

It came as no surprise that one third of the pupils from Years 7 to 11 stated In the Summer term  Pupil Participation Survey, that they had taken part in a school music event in the past year.

Many thanks to Mrs Nixon, our Director of Music, Mrs Warburton, Music Teacher, and all the staff at the Oldham Music Centre for ensuring that music is a very important part of Crompton House.
