The school hall was very busy on Thursday 20th August when our Year 11 students came in to collect their GCSE results and enrol for the Sixth Form.
The Headteacher Mr Newell said, “I am delighted to congratulate our Year 11 students on their excellent GCSE results. This year 82% of the grades achieved were grade C or better, including a quarter at A* or A and the proportion of pupils achieving 5 A* to C grades including English and Maths is 75%, keeping up the high standard set by last year’s students.
Many subjects improved their pass rates, and 31 of the 34 subjects taken had a 100% pass rate (A*-G) and I am particularly pleased that our progress figures for both English and Maths have improved on last year. They are the best we’ve had for a number of years.
We have 13 pupils who have achieved 10 or more A* and A grades and a further 7 who achieved 9 A* or A grades. We are very proud of these students who achieved our best results.

Special congratulations to Eleanor Makinson who achieved 8A* and 3 A grades. She is coming back to our sixth form to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths at A Level and we look forward to welcoming her and many students from other students from Crompton House and other schools to our Sixth Form in September. As well as studying hard, Eleanor is also a very talented artist and musician playing in the Senior Wind Band, Brass Band and sings in the Senior Choir.
Congratulations also to Oliver Dalziel, whose excellent results have enabled him to gain a place at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College in Leicestershire. Oliver has been very active in school music and we shall miss him a lot. He has also been involved with the cadets outside school and it is from this that he has become enthused to start his career in the armed forces. Oliver’s twin sister Amy will be staying at Crompton House in our Sixth Form, which their elder sister Hannah has just left to study Maths at Lancaster University.
As well as the photographer and reporter from the Oldham Chronicle in school today, we also had a cameraman filming some of the students and parents for a video about the school, which will be accessible to view via the school website.
