Physical Education

At Crompton House School, we recognise the importance of Physical Education and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles and lifelong participation in physical activity. The intent of our Physical Education curriculum is to provide all children with high quality Physical Education and sport provision. It is our vision for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles. We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging Physical Education lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all. We want our pupils to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Through our teaching of PE, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop values and transferrable life skills such as fairness and respect. We also aim for our students to strive to achieve excellence within lessons. The 3 pillars of progression (motor competence; rules, strategies and tactics; and healthy participation) provide a useful basis to navigate the national curriculum aims. The 3 pillars are outlined below;

  • motor competence – knowledge of the range of movements that become increasingly sport- and physical activity-specific
  • rules, strategies and tactics – knowledge of the conventions of participation in different sports and physical activities
  • healthy participation – knowledge of safe and effective participation

The extra-curricular offer is available for all pupils. It provides opportunities to build, develop and refine knowledge and in this way benefits from a symbiotic relationship with the curriculum subject PE.
