The last week of the summer term started on Sunday 10th July with the Sixth Form trip to New York. More details of this can be found on the Blog on the Sixth Form Website.
On Monday over 100 of Year 10 Geography GCSE students travelling down to Swanage for 3 ½ days of filed-centre work.
Also on Monday the Art Department held their annual display of GCSE and A Level work, and it looked brilliant.
On Tuesday a group of our older pupils started their 3 week trip to Nepal: a mixture of adventure and working on a community project – all the more important following last year’s devastating earthquakes.
Wednesday was a non-uniform day to help fund the community projects the students were working on in Nepal. Also a number of our Year 11 and Year 10 pupils organised a Cake Sale and raised £300 in aid of one of our Year 11 students who is currently receiving treatment at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
With all these older groups away on the Thursday it was a good time to celebrate the achievements of our younger pupils at our Lower School Prize Giving. Mr Matthew Milburn, Headteacher of Saddleworth School, was our guest and the music was provided by our Training Band and Year 7 & 8 Choir.
Friday was our last day with Communion Services followed by the Rewards Assembly. The communions were led by Mr Holt with Rev Tim Wickham officiating. The prayers were read by pupils and the Communion Orchestra and Choir provided the music. It was really good to see some of our Year 11 musicians return to augment the music.
The Rewards Assembly was a very different occasion with pupils receiving awards in lots of different categories including Vivos and attendance. The final House Vivo Competition turned out to be another close result with Crompton winning with a total of 121,968 Vivos, followed by Ridley, Ormerod, and Cocker in fourth place.
The assembly finished with the pupils cheering and clapping the departing staff. It was a fine end to a very successful year.
