Other School Equipment

All pupils are issued with the appropriate text and exercise books. They are the responsibility of the student and must be replaced if lost or damaged. It is expected that these books are treated with care and contain no graffitti.

All pupils need a calculator of their own to take this to their lessons. We do not lend calculators to students as they are such a fundamental piece of equipment. The National Curriculum in Maths requires knowledge of the various calculator functions and efficient use of them. We recommend that a scientific calculator is bought to allow pupils to familiarise themselves with all functions over a period of time. There are many scientific calculators on the market but one is available from school (Casio fx-83GTplus) and this can be purchased from the maths department for around £7 at the start of the new Autumn term.

Maths sets containing, pencil, pencil sharpener, compass, eraser, ruler, protractor, and a set square are available from the maths department at a cost of around £1.

Classroom Equipment List

Pupils are expected to provide basic equipment for all lessons:

Essential Equipment

Optional Equipment

Mobile phones, smart watches, MP3 players and cameras

We have what we consider to be a fair policy concerning mobile phones (and other blue tooth enabled devices) and we appreciate the support of parents on this. We do not believe that students need to use them during the school day.

In the school environment, digital devices can be a distraction to learning; our rule is that they must not be seen or heard during school time. Our policy is that if students have these items in sight, or if they are heard or used on the school site, from when the pupil enters the school gates to when they have been dismissed from their final lesson of the day, the device, including its SIM card, will be confiscated and locked away for seven days. This will also apply if a pupil is using headphones linked to a mobile phone in their pocket. If a camera is used without authorisation it will not be returned until any pictures involving the school or pupils are deleted. Smart watches are banned from all public exams and not allowed in school under any circumstances. If a pupil brings one into school it will be treated in the same way as mobile phones. It would be unfair to make any exceptions to these rules, whatever the circumstances.

The school cannot be held responsible for the safety or protection of pupils’ phones. Some smartphones are quite fragile, especially the screens, and parents must realise that all phones are brought in to school at their own risk.

In emergencies pupils may use the phone at the Student Hub or in an office if privacy is needed. Similarly, in emergencies, the school can always get messages to pupils when necessary via reception.
