Early in July Crompton House School Brass Band played in the Music for Youth Nationals at Birmingham Symphony Hall. The band was invited to take part following some fantastic playing at the MFY Regionals at Rochdale Town Hall earlier in the year.
In the Nationals the band played brilliantly under the baton of Mr Leedale of the Oldham Music Centre. The adjudicators at Birmingham wrote:
Bandology by Eric Osterling: “Lively sparky opening – a good toe-tapping tempo. You capture the style well. A crisp tight close to this piece – well done”
Trumpets Wild by Harold Walters: “Nicely balanced opening, The three young lady soloists playing with good clarity (Vickie Dennis, Penny Makinson, Anuszka Wrigley). You play with good style. Good percussion, never overpowers (Joe Cook & Joe Parkinson) A well crafted performance.”
Finale – Variations on Laudate Dominum by Edward Gregson “You play with good control. Lovely articulation from Euphoniums & Tubas. Well paced and dynamically well crafted. There is a real sense of a musical journey, well done.”
Mrs Nixon and Miss Warburton said it was a great day and all the band deserve to be congratulated on their performance.
