Ofsted recognises the Crompton
House Church of England School as a good school in which students uphold the
school’s core values: Loving God – Caring for Each Other – Achieving Excellence.
The students of Crompton House
continue to benefit from strong pastoral support, an ambitious curriculum and
engage positively with a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Pupils behave well in and out of lessons and sixth form students are role
models for younger students.
These were some of the key
observations made by the Ofsted team when they inspected the school on the 30th of April and the 1st of May.
The subsequent report, which
can be read in full on our school website, states that the school has put in
place a, ‘well thought-out curriculum”, which, “prepares (pupils) well for the
future” and sixth form students, “have an offer of subjects that equip them
well.”
Furthermore, “teachers have
strong subject expertise due to the high-quality training that they receive”
and this enable pupils to, “practice, revisit and remember their learning.”
The report notes that, “reading
is a high priority. The school’s Library is a hive of activity” and that pupils
“typically read often in school.” It also comments that “Pupils who find
reading more difficult are identified quickly. They benefit from
well-considered strategies to improve their reading knowledge. This improves
pupils’ confidence and fluency in reading and supports them to access the wider
curriculum.”
Pupils with special educational
needs and disabilities are identified quickly and effectively; the support
given “enables pupils with SEND to access the full curriculum.”
The Inspectors noted the
positive atmosphere around the school with the report stating that, “The school
is a calm, purposeful place to learn and work” that the pupils, “behave well”
and that, “Attendance
levels are above the national average.”
The Inspectors commented on the
strength of Careers education in school, stating, “Careers education across the
school is highly effective.”
The school is well supported by
trustees and members of the local governing body who have a, “accurate
understanding of the school” and are, “proud of the school and the impact that
it has on its community.” Staff are also, “proud to work at the school.”
Head of School, Susanna Hegarty
commented, “I am delighted that this Ofsted report
reinforces the many areas of strength across the school. I truly believe this
shows that through our combined efforts, Crompton House provides all our
students with a great educational experience. Our students uphold our core
values and feel happy and safe in school. This achievement is a testament to
the dedication and hard work of students, staff, governors, parents, carers,
and the wider community. We should all be incredibly proud of what we have
achieved together.”
Karl Newell, Chief Executive
Officer of Crompton House Multi Academy Trust added, “It is worth recognising
that that the ‘bar has been raised’ with the current Ofsted inspection
framework so it is extremely pleasing to read such a positive report, with only
one area highlighted for improvement. School leaders had already
identified and have been working to improve this area. This clearly
demonstrates the strong leadership of the school, who are committed to
maintaining and raising the high standards that Crompton House is famous for.
I can speak on behalf of the Trust Board who consider this an excellent
achievement for the school and are exceptionally proud of all staff and pupils
for their efforts during this inspection, the time leading up to the
inspection, and the ongoing performance of the school.”
