Year 11s Leavers Assembly and Valedictory Service were held towards the end of their GCSE exams. They started their last week at school by giving the staff a lesson in how to play football with a sound thrashing on the 3G pitch. The score was thoguht to be any between 10 and 13 to 2.
At the Leavers Assembly Mr Newell and Mr Upton reminded the pupils of their time at Crompton House and showed pictures from their past 5 years. The outstanding Music, Sports, Drama and Dance pupils were all recognised, as were the four girls who had achieved 100% attendance over all five years of their time at Crompton House, an amazing achievement.
The Valedictory Service later the same day was another very moving occasion. One of the highlights was singer/songwriter/guitarist Alex Woods performing his own song about the school. The standing-ovation from the pupils and staff was well-deserved. Similarly Declan Hodson-Walsh’s Ed Sheeran performance was also very well received. Declan reprised this performance at the Leavers Prom a week later at Rochdale Town Hall.
The Leavers Prom was a great evening, starting with the wonderfully looking students arriving in a wide variety of vehicles ranging from a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe car, to a fleet of World War 2 American Army Jeeps, with a host of stretch limos sandwiched between. Inside the town hall the pupils enjoyed a lovely meal while being entertained and mystified by the amazing sleight of hand of table magician Tony Ward, courtesy of the school’s PTFA. After a speech on behalf of the students by Katie Wiseman, the pastoral team presented a number of awards to the pupils.
Music Award: Vickie Dennis and Joe Cooke
Drama Award: Kelsey Openshaw and Alex Woods
PE Award: Tyla Hoyle and Ben Ellis
Art Award: Phoebe May and Joe Ellidge
The evening then continued with some great dancing by pupils and staff.
Many congratulations to the pupils for the excellent finish to their five years at Crompton House, and many thanks to all the staff whose hard work made these events possible.
