Six of our Year 8 pupils recently took part in The Faraday Challenge, an engineering-based competition organised by the Institute of Engineering . The event took place at Withington Girls School in Manchester. The challenge was to design an element of a theme park attraction, and Emma Astley, Jake Murray, Henry Molyneux, Freya Liles, Henry McLean and Amelia Wright all got really involved in the project. They first had to organise themselves taking on roles including Project Manager, Communications Officer, Safety Officer, Accountant, Electrical Engineer, Environmental Engineer and Performance Officer, and then design and build a detailed model of part the attraction. The day finished with each of the six schools giving a presentation to a team of judges. Dr Knight, who accompanied the pupils, said that they did really well and had a very interesting time being engineers. The pupils really enjoyed the challenge and,,who knows, these pupils may be real-life engineers in the future.
